Juan Miguel de los Ríos
Juan Miguel de los Ríos was born in Málaga in 1971. He is a writer and software engineer. His intimate, reflective novels explore ideas through their characters, the choices they make and the lives they might have led.
His first novel, El mar no puede morir, received the support of poet and journalist Manuel Alcántara. In it, a woman's abduction forces her partner to confront a reality he had chosen to keep at a distance.
Málaga is at the heart of 7LR (Siete lágrimas rojas), published in Spanish by Ediciones del Genal in 2017 and now available in English as Seven Red Tears. Holy Week, the tension between faith and reason, and the wounds of the past converge in an investigation through the city's streets. Submitted under the pen name Blanco Dálmata, the Spanish manuscript was among the ten finalists for the 2016 Premio Planeta.
El fin de nosotros, published in Spanish by Ediciones del Genal in 2023, broadens the scope to an international story. Murders, hidden identities and a scientific discovery place humanity's fate at its centre. The novel combines a police investigation with questions about our future.
Short fiction is another strand of his writing. His stories in Zenda include La tejedora de Odiseo, El veneno del aire, El poema infinito and La insólita vida de Aristocles Funes. These works draw on myth, language, artificial intelligence and power to explore the human experience.
